1970 HARBOUR CRESCENT, UCLUELET, BC, CANADA

We're building the best place in the world to build electric boats.

We're impatient to see our coastal workboats and water taxis, tugs and trawlers, commercial fishing boats and cruising yachts make the transition to fully electric vessels. We're building up the infrastructure and the expertise to make it happen here in BC. We know it's early. We also know there's no time to waste.

We're building the best place in the world to build electric boats.

We're building up the infrastructure and the expertise to make it happen here in BC. We know it's early. We also know there's no time to waste.

Located on the site of a former WWII seaplane base in Ucluelet, Rising Tide Boat Works is building the critical shared infrastructure for BC’s boaters and businesses to join the energy transition.

Whether you’re looking to convert a legacy vessel, develop and test marine technology, or build new electric boats from the keel up, we’d love to partner with you to make it happen.

Projects

UCLUELET, BC

Electric Boatyard
We are redeveloping a 6-acre industrial waterfront site in Ucluelet, BC, into a state-of-the-art boatyard dedicated to marine electrification. Our facility will be open to anyone building, retrofitting, researching and servicing electric boats. The site includes a 10,000 sq. ft. boatshed (formerly a WWII seaplane hangar) that accommodates vessels up to 100 ft. in length; metal and composite fabrication shops; a battery and electronics lab; and office and event space. We are constructing a new travel lift pier for vessel haul-out and a dock equipped with marine CCS fast chargers. We're scheduled to open our doors (our very, very large doors) in 2027.

NOOTKA PRINCESS

Charter Vessel Retrofit
Nootka Princess is a Delta Marine 43 pilothouse trawler with a long history as a tourism charter boat in Ucluelet. We're repowering her from twin-diesel Caterpillar 3208 engines to fully-electric propulsion. The plan includes two 140kW axial flux motors and 400kWh or more of battery, providing a top speed of 15kts and a 35 nautical mile range at the boat's 10kt cruise speed. We are working closely with Transport Canada to meet their rigorous inspection standards and maintain the Princess' existing commercial registration. Work is already underway on the vessel at the Ucluelet boatyard site.

SOLANDER 38 - CATALYST

Solar-Powered Electric Catamaran
In collaboration with the Rising Tide Research Foundation and other partners, we built Catalyst, a prototype solar-powered coastal cruising catamaran. Catalyst is designed to operate completely self-sufficiently for extended summer cruising, with daily ranges of 30-50 nautical miles entirely on solar power. In the winter, shore power keeps her 110kWh battery bank topped up and ready to go. Based on the Maine Cat 38, this "Solander 38" design provides comfortable cruising for a family of 4, while staying simple and light enough to maximize performance and efficiency.

Right now, Rising Tide Boat Works is building a facility, but our true goal is to build a community and an ecosystem. We want to do everything we can to bring people together, to learn what works and what doesn't, and to share what we know with each other and with the world. Whether you work on boats or have a boat that needs work, have a product or service to sell or a dissertation to write, we want to see you making discoveries and connections here.
